Minnesota Vikings Schedule Release: When, How to Watch, Leaks, Opponents

Everything you need to know ahead of the NFL schedule release on Thursday.
In this story:

The NFL is set to release the complete 272-game schedule for the 2023 regular season on Thursday, May 11th. Here are all the details you need to know.

The Vikings, like every other team, already know who they'll play their 17 games against this year. The opponents have been set since the conclusion of the 2022 regular season. What we'll find out on Thursday is the order of those games and the kickoff times, which is always fun. That includes the much-anticipated primetime slates for Thursday, Sunday, and Monday nights.

When will the schedule be released?

The full 2023 regular season schedule will be released at 7 p.m. central time Thursday evening.

A few matchups have already been revealed by the league — none of them involving the Vikings — and several more will be unveiled earlier on Thursday. NBC's Today Show and ABC's Good Morning America will announce select games on Thursday morning, while ESPN's NFL Live will announce a Monday Night Football matchup at 3 p.m. CT.

How can I watch?

There will be schedule release shows on both NFL Network and ESPN2 at 7 p.m. CT. You can also watch either one on those platforms' websites or apps (NFL.com, the NFL app, ESPN+, the ESPN app).

Who are the Vikings' opponents?

The Vikings will face the AFC West and NFC South this season. They'll also play the defending division winners from the NFC East, the NFC West, and the AFC North — and six games against their own division foes, of course. It's a tough slate.

  • Home (8): Chiefs, Chargers, Saints, Buccaneers, 49ers, Packers, Lions, Bears
  • Away (9): Raiders, Broncos, Bengals, Falcons, Panthers, Eagles, Packers, Lions, Bears

(Since the league moved to a 17-game schedule, teams alternate between having 8 or 9 home games each year).

The Vikings will also have three preseason games, two of which will be at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Will the Vikings have an international game?

Nope, not this year. You can find the NFL's 2023 international schedule here.

Is anything new this year?

Yes! A few things:

  • Teams are no longer guaranteed a primetime games.
  • Teams can now appear on Thursday Night Football twice in a season.
  • For the first time, ESPN will have flex scheduling for Monday Night Football from Week 12 through Week 17. That means MNF games during those weeks aren't completely locked in.

Vikings schedule leaks

  • The Vikings will travel to Lambeau Field to face the Packers in Week 8, per The Athletic's Matt Schneidman. That's a noon game on October 29th.
  • The second Vikings-Packers matchup? Sunday Night Football at U.S. Bank Stadium on New Year's Eve (Week 17). That'll be a fun atmosphere.
  • One week before that, the Vikings will host another huge divisional matchup against the Lions on Christmas Eve, according to The Athletic's Alec Lewis.
  • Lewis also said the defending champion Chiefs will come to Minneapolis in early October.
