Brentford join race to sign Sunderland man, report claims
Brentford have joined the race to sign Sunderland attacker Jack Clarke this summer, according to a recent report from The Sun.
Clarke, 22, has enjoyed a standout season with Sunderland in the Championship.
The ex-Leeds United and Spurs man has featured in all but one of Sunderland's Championship fixtures this season, scoring nine and assisting 11 - the most amount of goal contributions he's ever recorded in a single season.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Crystal Palace were keeping tabs on Clarke, who they view as a potential replacement for Wilfried Zaha who finally looks set to move on this summer.
But a recent report from The Sun has claimed that Brentford are now keen on Clarke.
Their report says that Brentford are 'ready to battle' Palace for the signing of Clarke, and that the Black Cats 'will look for at least £10m' for Clarke should they fail to earn promotion from the Championship.
Tony Mowbray's side finished in 6th place of the table after a chaotic final day of the season which saw Sunderland beat Preston 3-0.
Clarke to Brentford?
Clarke definitely fits the profile of players that Brentford sign. He's young and proving himself in the Championship and at £10million, he'd be a very cheap signing for a Premier League club.
But Sunderland will no doubt want to keep Clarke beyond this season. He's a key player for the club and someone who Mowbray and co can look to build a future squad around.
And there's a very good chance that Sunderland get promoted. They're looking very strong ahead of the play-offs this month and if they earn promotion then the chance of Clarke being sold becomes very small.
Sunderland host Luton Town in the first leg of their play-off semi-final on Saturday, with kick-off at 5:30pm.
