EXCLUSIVE: Southampton plot second Sunderland player raid ahead of deadline day
Southampton want to sign both Ross Stewart and Patrick Roberts from Sunderland on deadline day tomorrow.
Southampton are chasing a deal for Stewart ahead of tomorrow's summer transfer deadline, as first revealed by Sunderland Nation, and now we can reveal that the Saints also fancy Roberts.
He too is currently sidelined, picking up a minor hamstring injury earlier this month, and he too is out of contract at the end of this season.
Sunderland Nation revealed earlier this summer that the Black Cats were tabling contract renewal talks with Roberts until after this summer transfer window, over concerns that the player was becoming unsettled at the club.
The former Manchester City man has had suitors in the past couple of transfer windows but with little over 24 hours left in this one, it looks like the versatile 26-year-old could move on.
He was a key player for the Black Cats last season, scoring five and assisting seven and providing good attacking cover in the absence of Stewart.
But the Saints could now be in line to poach both Stewart and Roberts from Sunderland, with Tony Mowbray's side facing a potential anxious final day of the window.
