Sunderland look set to spend some money in the transfer market this summer, but they're also being tipped to sell some names too.

Sunderland have quite a few assets in their playing squad after their impressive 2022/23 season in the Championship.

The Black Cats players have adjusted well to life in the second tier, but their strong season will come with inevitable transfer interest in their players.

A number of Sunderland players have been linked with Premier League clubs in the past year or so, and yesterday, The Sun's Alan Nixon revealed on his Patreon account that the Black Cats are bracing themselves for transfer interest in their players this summer.

Nixon's report suggests that Tony Mowbray and co are resigned to losing one or two players this summer, with Jack Clarke, Patrick Roberts, Anthony Patterson, and Dan Neil all mentioned.

Clarke and Patterson have seen Premier League links emerge this season, with Clarke mentioned alongside Crystal Palace of late and Patterson alongside Leicester City earlier in the year.

Neil was catching the eye of Premier League teams last year, but Roberts' inclusion is quite a surprising one.

He's out of contract in 2024 and so Sunderland could look to cash in on the ex-Manchester City man, but it's difficult to see many Premier League sides spending big on the 26-year-old this summer.

The summer ahead...

So the summer ahead for Sunderland looks like it could be an interesting one. Mowbray's future is seemingly sorted for the time being, but he might have a bit of work to do in the transfer market to replace some potentially outgoing players.

But such is the life of a Championship team. Mowbray and co will know that Sunderland need to be a selling team to a certain degree, in order for them to keep growing and keep on making a profit in the transfer market.
