Sunderland talent Matthew Young has interest from Manchester City and Manchester United, reports claim.

Young is only 16 years old, but the young shot-stopper is already a regular feature for the Black Cats' U18 side.

And iNews are reporting that Manchester City and Manchester United have both scouted the youngster ahead of a potential move.

The same report tips him to potentially follow in the footsteps of England no.1 and former Sunderland man Jordan Pickford, who also graduated through the ranks at the Academy of Light.

Another goalkeeper to come out of the club's system is current no.1 Anthony Patterson, so Young certainly has inspiration to take from.

Young heading for the Premier League?

It seems like we're talking about a new Sunderland youth prospect every week which is obviously a credit to the club.

And what's also a credit is that the bulk of them seeing to be staying at the club, often committing their short or medium-term future to the club.

Chris Rigg is a fine example and he's being given game time now, though for Young it may be different; Tony Mowbray is much less likely to give Young minutes in competitive football with him being a goalkeeper.

So the lure of City of United may well be more appealing for someone like Young, and it certainly seems like both clubs are keen given that they've scouted the youngster already.

Where Young is concerned, it could be a nervy few weeks or months ahead for Sunderland, who return to league action vs Stoke City later in the month.
