Hamilton Tiger-Cats Officially Introduce Scott Milanovich as Coach

Just one day after announcing the restructuring of their football operations, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have named Scott Milanovich as their new coach.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats shook up their football operations on Tuesday, announcing that coach Orlondo Steinauer would be taking over the role of president of football operations and that Ed Hervey had been named as general manager.

Fans were expecting the new coach to be announced later in the week based on the team's statement Tuesday, but they only had to wait a day for their answer.

On Wednesday, Hamilton announced on X that they had named Scott Milanovich as their 27th coach in franchise history.

A press conference was held Wednesday afternoon officially introducing Milanovich as the coach. Steinauer expressed his confidence in Milanovich's leadership abilities and optimism he would keep the Tiger-Cats successful in 2024 prior to the presser.

“First and foremost, Scott is an outstanding person and a proven head coach in the CFL.” Steinauer said. “He did an outstanding job with us last year when he took on an expanded role and we know his leadership will bring tremendous value to our organization. We’re looking forward to the 2024 season and we’re excited that Scott and his family will continue to be a part of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.”

Milanovich joined the Tiger-Cats back in May as a senior assistant coach. He held the role until August when he took over the play-calling duties after Tommy Condell parted ways with the organization.

This will be the third head coaching job for Milanovich in the CFL after he previously held the same role for the Toronto Argonauts and Edmonton. While the cancelation of the season due to COVID kept him from coaching a game for Edmonton, Milanovich went 43-47 in his time with Toronto, including a 2012 Grey Cup victory.

Milanovich echoed the same sentiments as Steinauer about taking over the football team.

“I want to thank Bob Young, Scott Mitchell, Orlondo Steinauer, Ed Hervey and Hamilton Sports Group for this opportunity.” Milanovich said. “There is an outstanding foundation in place and I’m excited to get to work and help bring a championship to Hamilton.”

Hamilton finished with an 8-10 record in 2023 and made the playoffs for the fifth-straight season.
