A sour start to the series.

Alabama baseball fell 11-5 to the Texas A&M Aggies in Game 1 on Friday night in College Station.

Trevor Werner hit three two-run home runs — outdueling Colby Shelton’s two-home run night.

Werner finished with six RBIs on 3-for-5 hitting.

Werner wasn’t alone. The Aggies hit six home runs as a team, including two from Jace LaViolette.

RHP Luke Holman had been masterful as of late. It didn’t go as well on Friday.

Holman surrendered six runs on four hits in 4.1 innings pitched. He also walked three and struck out four. RHP Hagan Banks had also been impressive in recent appearances — he also struggled. Banks allowed three runs on three hits in 2.2 innings.

Banks struck out six in short relief.

Seven Crimson Tide hitters recorded a base hit. Bryce Eblin hit a two-run home run that tied the game at 4-4 in the fifth inning.

It was all Aggies after that.

“The park was playing pretty offensive, especially early on. [Texas A&M] did a good job of taking advantage of some of our mistakes,” interim head coach Jason Jackson said. “Our hitters did a good job of keeping the game tight, and we answered with some home runs of our own, but in the end, we just couldn’t slow them down.”

Alabama and Texas A&M will meet again on Saturday afternoon for the second game of the weekend set. First pitch is scheduled for noon CT on SEC Network+.
