Hunter Johnson on The Joe Gaither Show: Episode 30, June 30, 2023

Did Jahvon Quinerly ruin his Alabama legacy by hitting the transfer portal this past week?

The final day of June brings the listeners Hunter Johnson on "The Joe Gaither Show on BamaCentral". The social-media savant joined Gaither to wrap up the entire athletic year and start looking ahead to some basketball topics.

Despite the Tide hoisting zero national titles, Johnson called 2022-23 possibly the greatest season in the history of Alabama athletics with 2012 and 2006 serving as its rivals.

The conversation quickly shifted to the Alabama basketball program as we discussed head coach Nate Oats's ability to manage the roster this summer.

Oats is dealt two surprise roster defections in Charles Bediako and Jahvon Quinerly but has managed to pivot and largely fill the coming season's team with exciting players.

How does losing Quinerly to the transfer portal at this late stage impact the upcoming season? Who will be the most hated player on this team by opposing fanbases in 2023-24?

The show said goodbye to Johnson after the hoops hype fizzled out and a chicken fingers story was told.

Gaither wrapped up this week's programming with three topics, gambling, recruiting and transfer portal.

The NCAA and NFL recently sent out memos to its athletes reminding them of the gambling policies that are already in place. We've seen an uptick in gambling violations across sports as its become legal in more and more states.

How much corruption is unfolding on the competition field week-in and week-out? Is football about to have a problem protecting the integrity of its game?

The Tide flipped Isaisa Faga on Wednesday and Gaither got into what he can bring to Alabama. Faga, from Central Phenix-City is the Tide's second defensive lineman in the class and possesses strong fundamentals to build off of.

The show concluded with the transfer portal. The NCAA introduced a proposal to shorten the transfer portal window, is that good or bad?
