Thursday we welcomed former Alabama wide receiver Mac Hereford into "The Joe Gaither Show on BamaCentral" to talk about his experiences with the Tide and how his time parallels with what the 2023 Alabama team faces.

Hereford was part of the Alabama football program from 2016-20, experiencing a national championship, three SEC championships, four different coordinators and three of the Tide's best quarterbacks the program's ever seen.

The conversation kicked off with the top question on all Alabama fan's minds this offseason, who's going to start under-center for the Tide in 2023?

Hereford discussed what it was like to experience a quarterback battle and he related this offseason to the quarterback sagas that he was a part of.

Hereford was a freshman in 2016 when Alabama was deciding between Blake Barnett, Cooper Bateman, David Cornwell and Jalen Hurts as its quarterbacking options. Tide fans remember all too well the drama that engulfed the 2017 season as Tua Tagovailoa served as Hurts's backup. 2018 was the same, but different, as Tagovailoa started in place of Hurts but came up short in a national title game.

So how does a quarterback win the team over? How do wide receivers experience a quarterback competition at The Capstone?

Hereford played receiver at Alabama with some of the greats in the Nick Saban-era. The group of Calvin Ridley, Jerry Jeudy, DeVonta Smith and others earned the "Rydeout" nickname and the former receiver discussed what it meant to leave a legacy that people still talk about today.

The program concluded with Hereford's thoughts on the Tide's chances to make it back to the College Football Playoff and his insight from his personal relationship with Mac Jones.
