Pinckney's Six RBIs Carry Alabama Baseball to Blowout Win Over Texas A&M in Game 2
A six-run loss, a time change and two weather delays weren't enough to knock out Alabama Baseball.
Fresh off allowing six home runs on Friday night, the Crimson Tide (34-17, 12-14 SEC) gave the Texas A&M Aggies a taste of their own medicine — running away with a seven-inning 12-1 win on Saturday afternoon in College Station.
"I was excited to play early today after a rough one last night," interim head coach Jason Jackson said. "We came out and attacked in the first inning, putting three runs on the board before they recorded an out. [Andrew] Pinckney giving us that three-run home run in the fifth was a big lift and got us out of the gates hot, and we carried that momentum the rest of the way."
Alabama was led by the red-hot bat of Andrew Pinckney, who finished the afternoon 3-for-5 with two home runs and six RBIs. Colby Shelton hit another home run after smashing two on Friday night. Jim Jarvis had two hits — and two RBIs as well.
After RHP Luke Holman got rocked in Game 1, the Crimson Tide needed a big start from veteran RHP Garrett McMillan.
And it got exactly that.
McMillan went six full innings, allowing just a single run on six hits and one walk. He struck out seven.
Saturday's game was supposed to begin at noon CT. It was delayed until 12:45 p.m. Then in the bottom of the sixth inning, the game was stopped for 33 minutes — until Alabama returned to the field and finished the job in seven innings.
With the win, the Crimson Tide is back into a tie for ninth place with the Aggies (30-21, 12-14 SEC) — meaning Sunday's winner will move past the other with just one series left to play in the regular season.
The rubber match will begin at 3 p.m. CT on the SEC Network. RHP Jacob McNairy (4.02 ERA) is expected to get the start for Alabama.
