Sal Sunseri Heading to Colorado for Defensive Tackle Coaching Role
Alabama assistant coach Sal Sunseri is leaving the Crimson Tide's staff to join on at Colorado under new head coach Deion Sanders.
Sunseri is assuming the role of defensive tackle coach for the Buffaloes.
Sunseri spent the last three years at Alabama. From 2019-2021, he was the Crimson Tide's outside linebackers coach. In 2022, Sunseri was the special assistant to the head coach — Nick Saban.
Sunseri had another stint in Tuscaloosa from 2009-2011. He served as assistant head coach and linebackers coach.
“Whether it’s the portal, having people on top of the portal — you almost need a staff of people just like you have a staff of people for recruiting to find out who the best players in high schools are,” Saban said last year when describing Sunseri’s role. “You also have to have people responsible to do evaluations in terms of who’s getting in the portal."
Sunseri is joining an upstart Colorado program that looks to be quickly rising in the Pac-12.
