2024 4-Star Running Back James Peoples Includes Alabama in his Final Six
The University of Alabama is one of the top choices for 4-star running back James Peoples, per multiple reports. Peoples received the offer from the Crimson Tide on Dec. 21, 2022.
The 5-foot-11, 196 pound prospect out of Veterans Memorial High School in San Antonio, Texas, is ranked as the No. 17 junior in the state and the consensus No. 6 running back in the nation.
The Crimson Tide has made his final list of six schools, which also includes Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas and TCU.
According to 247 Sports, Peoples had 191 carries for 1,904 yards and 28 touchdowns in his junior season. Absolutely absurd numbers.
Peoples' highlights showcase all the makings of an ideal running back.
Peoples is very quick to recognize the gaps for his dozens of long gains and touchdowns. His vertical speed on those runs often showed the deep safeties trailing from several yards out.
For the times he hasn't moved faster than the camera operator, Peoples has shown that he doesn't go down easy as he breaks the first tackle attempt more times than not. He had several touchdowns where he had to take on three and sometimes even four defenders.
Peoples' best asset is arguably his ability to change direction. For the times he doesn't run through the defender, he makes unreachable simple moves that cause the defender to stumble and hit the turf. These acceleration bursts really make him stick out.
According to 247 Sports, Peoples' also competes in track and field and was the district co-MVP in 2022. His hurdling experience also transfers onto the gridiron as he leaped over defenders multiple times in his highlights.
Peoples also gets involved in the passing game. He normally runs wheel routes and short plays over the middle, but he's made catches that are rarely expected to be made by FBS running backs.
