Recruiting Rundown: Alabama Preparing For Final Run at 2024 Class as Season Begins
The Alabama fall semester gets started this month, signaling a shift in the calendar both competitively and on the recruiting trail.
The Tide held its Champions Cookout event this past weekend but went without making major headlines. In fact, it was rival Auburn, at their Big Cat Weekend, that stole the show, snagging a commitment from former Alabama commit Perry Thompson.
Thompson gives the Tigers two 5-star prospects in their class and more importantly leaves Alabama with just one committed wide receiver in the current class.
Saturday, Aug. 5 will be a big day on the recruiting trail for Alabama as the Tide tries to mitigate the loss of Thompson with another big time receiver.
4-star prospect Amari Jefferson out of Chattanooga, Tennessee will make his college announcement on Saturday and he's long held Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama as his three finalists.
Jefferson is already committed to Tennessee to play baseball and has been vocal about playing both sports in college. Did his recent visit with new Alabama baseball coach Rob Vaughn go well enough that he'll don the Crimson hat tomorrow? He'll commit at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday.
News and Notes

Tide-Bits
• Alabama legacy Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. set Aug. 18 as his commitment date. The Gadsden City safety will choose between between Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas and Missouri.
• Favour Edwin was on-hand for the Champions Cookout and told On3Sports he had a great visit. The Nigerian has yet to play live American Football but the 6-8, 290 pound tackle impressed enough in camps to earn an Alabama offer. He'll play for Eagle's Landing Christian Academy in McDonough this fall and hopes to commit in late August.
Checking Out The Capstone
• 5-star forward Asa Newell spent time in Tuscaloosa this week on an official visit. Newell is considered the top forward and the No. 11 overall player in the 2024 class. He's reportedly between Alabama, Gonzaga, Indiana and Georgia for his college services.
The NCAA calendar opened up this week for the class of 2025, meaning colleges can officially offer scholarships to the rising junior class. We leave you with the graphic video sent out by the University of Alabama to its class of 2025 prospects.
