Auburn basketball reaches out to South Florida center Russel Tchewa
Auburn basketball is taking a look at another transfer portal big man.
After missing out on Micah Handlogten, who committed to Florida on Monday afternoon, the Tigers are reaching out to another seven-footer in the portal.
Russel Tchewa, who has played for the past three seasons at South Florida, has been contacted by Auburn per 24/7 High School Hoops on Twitter.
Russel has also been contacted by five other SEC schools and 12 other Power Six schools. Some of the notable names include Arkansas, Oklahoma, LSU, Florida, NC State, Seton Hall, Florida State, Clemson, Memphis, and St. Louis.
After playing his first year with Texas Tech, Tchewa transferred to USF. He averaged a career-best 11.1 points and 8.6 rebounds while shooting 60.6% from the floor.
Auburn still has leading scorer Johni Broome and backup center Dylan Cardwell on roster. Whether or not the Tigers are more focused on bringing in a center as opposed to another guard or wings is up to be decided.
Tchewa scored five points on 2-of-5 shooting in a 67-59 loss to Auburn in November last year.
The Tigers earned the commitment and signing of FIU transfer Denver Jones over the weekend.
