Takeo Spikes predicts Auburn upsets No. 22 LSU
The Auburn Tigers (3-2, 0-2 SEC) are heading on the road to take on what may be their most difficult challenge yet this season.
The No. 22 LSU Tigers (4-2, 3-1 SEC) have one of the most prolific offenses in the entire country and will enter their contest against Hugh Freeze's Tigers as an 11-point favorite.
There should be a lot of points scored - that is, if Auburn's passing game can actually make something happen.
The Tigers are currently last in the SEC in passing yards per game (156.6) and have really struggled to create consistency on that side of the ball. With the talent that LSU possesses, it's hard to envision a path to Auburn's second-straight victory in Baton Rouge.
However, due to the nature of the rivalry, SEC Network's Takeo Spikes believes there could be an upset on the horizon in Death Valley.
"When you look at Auburn's offense compared to LSU's defense, you're looking at one of the worst passing offenses in the nation, not just the SEC," Spikes said. "But then you're also looking at the defensive side one of the worst passing defenses in the nation when it comes to LSU."
When you put it all together, an LSU victory seems likely to Spikes... but this is a strange game with a lot of strange history.
"You put all of this on paper and you figure, 'will this be a high scoring game?' We know Jayden Daniels, we know what he can do, and he's been consistently doing it... but this is a weird rivalry," Spikes said. "And they don't call it a rivalry for nothing. This easily could be, I could - I don't know if you could say maybe it could be an upset, I don't know, I don't know."
"Are we saying that? Are you saying that?" Chris Doering asked Spikes.
"Saying it." Spikes responded.
Auburn travels to take on LSU in Baton Rouge this weekend. Kickoff is at 6:00 pm CT on ESPN.
