It is rare to see a team picked to win their conference when they don't return their starting quarterback, either running back and three starting receivers. Yet, that's the exact situation the Baylor Bears find themselves in heading towards the 2022 season.

So where does all the confidence come from with so much uncertainty? One of the nation's most experienced (and effective) offensive line units.

"We've already installed way more than we did last year," senior left tackle Connor Galvin said. "That's a really nice part of having a really experienced offense."

Galvin is the unit's focal point, having won 2021 Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year honors and finding himself on the Outland Trophy watch list for 2022. Galvin says even his acclaim is thanks to the rest of his lineman.

"Yeah, I won Big 12 O-Lineman of the year, but if the other guys hadn't performed, I wouldn't have gotten it," Galvin said. "Easily anyone else on that O-Line could have won that award."

Galvin might have a point, as center Jacob Gall was also named to the Outland Trophy watch list. Gall, like Galvin, decided to stay in school for a chance to bring nearly the entire offensive line unit from 2021.

The Bears return four of their five starters, and the five linemen have 111 starts between them.

Building off 2021 wouldn't be bad for the Bears, as they had one of the most potent running attacks in the Big 12 behind that offensive line, rushing for 219 yards a game en route to the conference championship.

Some things just don't need to be fixed.

"The standard is still the same. We haven't changed anything," Galvin said. "We're going to do the same stuff we did last year...so I don't really feel like a change has happened."

Galvin and the offensive line make up four of the five returning starters for the Bears on offense.
