BYU Football Transfer Portal Recruiting Hot Board

BYU is recruiting various players in the transfer portal

Kalani Sitake and the BYU coaching staff are recruiting multiple players in the transfer portal, some of which are currently on campus for visits. Today, we'll list some of the top targets and a few others that have received BYU offers. Here is a big board for BYU transfer portal targets.

1. Harrison Taggart - Oregon

Former Corner Canyon standout and four-star recruit Harrison Taggart entered the transfer portal last month. Taggart signed with Oregon as part of the 2022 recruiting class. After one season in Eugene, Taggart entered the transfer portal with four years of eligibility remaining.

Taggart received 25 offers coming out of high school from the likes of USC, Utah, Cal, Virginia, UCLA, Nebraska, Louisville, and Colorado among others. Despite prepping down the road from BYU's campus, Taggart did not receive a scholarship offer from BYU's defensive staff at the time. BYU's new defensive staff took the opposite approach, making Taggart a top priority. Taggart is the kind of player that could make an immediate impact and anchor BYU's defense for years to come. When he was coming out of high school, Taggart ranked as the 36th best linebacker in the country in the 2022 class.

2. Ajani Carter - Utah State

Utah State transfer cornerback Ajani Carter arrived on BYU's campus yesterday for a visit. This is Carter's last visit before he makes his transfer decision. He has already taken official visits to Baylor and Indiana.

Adding Carter would give BYU another veteran in the defensive backfield to pair alongside Eddie Heckard and Jakob Robinson. After those two, BYU is inexperienced at cornerback. Carter has one year of eligibility remaining.

3. Chase Sowell - Colorado

UPDATE: Chase Sowell committed to ECU on Friday.

Colorado transfer Chase Sowell is currently on campus for an official visit. Sowell spent just one season at Colorado before entering the transfer portal. He has four seasons of eligibility remaining. As of this article, BYU is Sowell's only Power Five offer. He has received competing offers from ECU, Charlotte, Kent State, UConn, North Texas, and Texas State since entering the transfer portal.

Behind Kody Epps, Keanu Hill, Darius Lassiter, and Chase Roberts, BYU is untested at wide receiver. Adding Sowell would provide valuable depth and give BYU a potential starter in the future.

4. Javon Antonio - Northwestern State

Javon Antonio is a grad transfer from Northwestern State with one year of eligibility remaining. Since entering the portal, he has received offers from the likes of Georgia Tech, Colorado, Washington State, and Boston College among others. He is a big-bodied wide receiver at 6'4 and 220 pounds.

5. Chance Morrow - Louisville

6'6 wide receiver Chance Morrow was a true freshman at Louisville last season. He didn't register any stats, but he was a coveted recruit coming out of high school. Morrow reported offers from Oklahoma, Miami, Ohio State, and Notre Dame before signing with Louisville.

BYU is his best offer since entering the transfer portal. He reports competing offers from Charlotte, Buffalo, Rhode Island, and some other small schools. Morrow is on an official visit to Buffalo this weekend.

6. Elijah Smoot - UT Martin

A few weeks ago, UT Martin transfer Elijah Smoot told Cougs Daily that he was planning a BYU visit. It's unclear whether Smoot still plans on taking a visit to BYU. BYU is the only Power Five school that has offered Smoot since he entered the transfer portal. Smoot has competing offers from UConn, Toledo, Liberty, ECU, and WKU. Smoot finished with 508 receiving yards in 2022. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

7. Montana Lemonious-Craig - Colorado

Colorado transfer Montana Lemonious-Craig has been one of the hottest names in the transfer portal since he entered. Lemonious-Craig racked up 359 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns last season in a Colorado offense that was one of the worst passing offenses in college football. Lemonious-Craig was a star of the Colorado Spring scrimmage before he entered the transfer portal. In that game, he totaled 154 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Lemonious-Craig has two seasons of eligibility remaining and he has received competing offers from Auburn, Mississippi State, Cal, Penn State, Cincinnati, and Washington State among others since entering the transfer portal. He was in Tucson visiting Arizona a few weeks ago.

8. Jyaire Shorter - North Texas

North Texas transfer Jyaire Shorter has over 1,300 receiving yards in his career and he is coming off a career high 628 receiving yards in 2022. Shorter is a true deep threat - he averaged 27.3 yards per reception last season. Shorter received a BYU offer and he has received competing offers from Purdue and UCF.
