Cal Adds 3-Star Running Back Jamaal Wiley of Texas to its 2024 Recruiting Class
Running back Jamaal Wiley, who uses the creative Twitter handle “Special Agent Ocho," has become Cal’s seventh commitment to its 2024 football recruiting class, its fourth from the state of Texas.
Wiley is a 6-foot-1, 215-pounder from Stafford, Texas, located 19 miles southwest of Houston. Rivals rates him as a three-star prospect, although 247Sports does not attach a ranking to him.
Wiley announced his college choice Sunday on social media:
Wiley, who has rushed for 2,355 yards with 35 touchdowns entering his senior season this fall, was projected by several of the recruiting sites as a likely Baylor or Arkansas commitment.
Instead, Cal running backs coach Aristotle Thompson got a commitment from Wiley after his weekend campus visit.
He is the first running back in the Bears’ class of 2024, but they do have commitments from a pair of 2025 California high school backs — Carter Jackson of Folsom and Jusyis Solis of San Bernardino.
Wiley’s best high school season to date was his 2021 sophomore campaign, when he rushed for 1,193 yards and 17 TDs to earn Texas 12-4A all-district first-team honors. He ran for 600 yards as a junior last fall.
Wiley becomes the fourth Texas prep to commit to the Bears’ class of 2024, joining defensive lineman Michael Anthony Okwura, linebacker Eze Osondu and lineman Kyle Knape.
Other school that reportedly have offered Wiley include Kansas, Kansas State, Memphis, Missouri, Oklahoma State and TCU.
