Cal Reserve Safety Kaleb Higgins Enters Transfer Portal
Cal redshirt sophomore safety Kaleb Higgins has entered the transfer portal, according to his social media message.
Higgins played in four games in the 2022 season but did not record any statistics. He was listed a third-string safety behind Craig Woodson and Dejuan Butler in the depth chart Cal released at the end of spring practice.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Higgins is from Austin, Texas, and was rated a three-star recruit out of Folsom High School. He had offers from virtually every Pac-12 school as well as Baylor and Nebraska before choosing Cal.
Higgins becomes the third scholarship Cal player to enter the transfer portal since spring football workouts ended on April 15, although none was listed as a starter at his position on the recent depth chart. The others who entered the transfer portal were freshman offensive tackle Jackson Brown and wide receiver Aidan Lee.
Cal walk-on inside linebacker McKyle So'oto, a redshirt sophomore, also entered the transfer portal on Sunday. He was listed as a fourth-team inside linebacker on the recent depth chart.
The Bears' most significant addition in the transfer portal was North Carolina State quarterback Ben Finley, who committed to Cal this past week.
Woodson and Miles Williams are currently listed as the starters at Cal's two safety positions. The Bears need to replace Daniel Scott, a two-year starter at safety who was taken in the fifth round by the Indianapolis Colts in this year's NFL draft.
