Wes Miller Dives Deep Into Aziz Bandaogo's Denied Transfer Waiver Appeal: 'It's unfair, It's Wrong'
CINCINNATI — Wes Miller closed his postgame press conference following a 93-61 win over Detroit Mercy with a passionate, measured rant about the transfer waiver saga Aziz Bandaogo and Jamille Reynolds are going through.
The NCAA denied Bandago's appeal for a second-time transfer waiver appeal on Friday.
Miller went for nearly 10 minutes on the confusing and unfair "example" that the NCAA is making out of this cycle of players before they ultimately change the rules again in 2024.
"I'm trying to understand the purpose of Aziz and Jamille not playing," Miller said. "And the only thing that I can make sense of is the NCAA doesn't want to have mental health waivers. So they're going to deny all of them so that now nobody will try this again. If we don't want waivers, we shouldn't have waivers (established in years past). And that, in my opinion, is totally wrong and unfair. It's unfair, it's wrong."
Most notably, he revealed that Bandaogo met all the institution requirements to play, but the only big question from the NCAA was "Why Cincinnati?"
"I think they said that he checked every box, but they couldn't figure out why Cincinnati? Why does that make sense? " Miller said about the feedback from the NCAA. "Well, guys, he's from Senegal. He can't go back to Senegal and go to college. He played his first year at Akron in the state of Ohio. His American family, and there's a lot that goes into that that he doesn't want to talk about publicly, is within a driving radius of this campus. Why Cincinnati? Then where is he supposed to go? That's the only feedback we got."
The frustrating saga continues for UC hoops. Check out Miller's full response below and his thoughts on the win.
