Luke Kandra, Gavin Gerhardt, Dartanyan Tinsley, John Williams, Deondre Buford Announce 2024 Returns to UC

Cincinnati's biggest strength is sticking together for Year 2 of the Scott Satterfield era.
In this story:

CINCINNATI — The road graders up front are ready for more in 2024. All five of the Bearcats' starting offensive linemen announced they would return for another season: Gavin Gerhardt, John Williams, Luke Kandra, Deondre Buford, and Dartanyan Tinsley.

Deondre Buford was the only starter to play poorly this season with a starter-low 50.3 PFF grade.

The other four all graded 67 or better on PFF this past season, ranking among the Bearcts 14 best offensive players. That group was a big reason UC ranked top-10 nationally in rushing yards per game with Corey Kiner at the head. Now, they can work on beefing up the pass protection which ended up allowing 27 sacks this season (86th nationally).

Emory Jones was so-so at getting out of pressure which hurt that number. He posted a 21% pressure-to-sack ratio this past season (27th-highest out of 87 qualified passers). There is plenty of reason to be excited about this unit with another offseason to gel together.

Extra Note: Philip Wilder is a name to keep an eye on after he played great ball across 243 snaps at left and right tackle. He tallied the eight-highest offensive PFF grade on the team and played 26-plus snaps in each of the final three games.

He would be a great player to retain and it seems likely he stays given it would be his second transfer with one-year of eligibility left.
