CINCINNATI — The Athletic ranked all 69 Power Five quarterbacks ahead of Week 1 of the 2023 college football season. UC's Emory Jones checked in towards the middle of the pack at No. 33.

Jones was the sixth-best Big 12 quarterback in the exercise.

"Now on his third team in his sixth year of college football, Jones is a decent runner with a career 5.7 YPA, but he hasn’t been able to sustain it once he became a full-time starter," Cooper Klaus wrote. "Jones has been serviceable as a passer but never really showed the high-end potential that many expected from the former top-100 recruit. A career 63.8 percent completion rate and 7.7 YPA are competent numbers that can be valuable to a lot of programs. But without the elite rushing floor of some of the other quarterbacks who may have some flaws as passers, Jones might just be a mid-tier player."

Jones dealt with a career-high drop rate from his receivers last season, but it was still a rough enough stretch to warrant some doubts about how he'll fare in the Big 12.

Most signs have been positive leading into the campaign when it comes to his acclimation to Scott Satterfield's dual-threat friendly system as UC looks to control the ground game and hit deep shots as a compliment.
