Dabo Disrespect? Clemson fans react to a perceived slight of the Tigers' headman.
In today's hyperspeed, scrolling newsfeed, constantly changing world, newsworthy stories - both good and bad - move out of our awareness almost as soon as they arrive. Just sent a rocket into space? Cool, what else ya got? Stole money from a children's hospital to pay a recruit's parents? Old news, how's your wide receiver room looking?
In the case of Clemson's head football coach Dabo Swinney, the recency bias hasn't passed him over. Leading the second most dominant run from any school over the past decade - second only to Alabama - isn't enough to convince some in the college football landscape that Clemson isn't washed up. Forget the fact that the Tigers are one of three teams to have won multiple titles in the College Football Playoff era, two three-loss seasons in a row is apparently what matters.

In a recent post from On3, the recruiting/college football site posed the question: "If Nick Saban & Kirby Smart are considered the Top 2 Coaches in College Football... Who is No. 3?" The post then featured an image with Swinney, Michigan's Jim Harbaugh, USC's Lincoln Riley, and LSU's Brian Kelly.
Clemson fans took offense to this for a very clear reason: Swinney has two rings, and the rest of those coaches have a grand total of zero.
- Jeff Savage, a high school football coach in Arkansas, responded: "WHAT?! One of these has multiple titles over the GOAT in the middle of the dynasty and has dominated their conference for the last decade. Easily Dabo man, this is a terrible question."
- Billy Walton from Georgia also came to Swinney's defense: "Well I dunno maybe the coach with two national championships, like 6 playoff appearances and like 8 conference championships. Just spitballing though."
- Chad Powers provided his own rankings: "I think the argument could be made for Saban at 1, Kirby and Dabo as 2a and 2b and these other three who have ZERO national titles can fend for themselves for whatever order they think they’re in."
- Even fans of other teams responded. "The" Tomohiostate responded: "That’s easy Dabo he is the only other head coach with multiple Nattys & conference championships it’s not even close until someone else wins multiple times and I’m a Buckeye fan so it pains me to write this but it’s true."
