BREAKING: 4-star Darien Mayo Commits to Clemson
Well, that didn't take long. After canceling an official visit to Michigan, many pundits believed that the race for 4-star edge rusher Darien Mayo would come down to USC and Clemson. On Thursday afternoon, the Tigers won the race.
On3's Hayes Fawcett reported that Mayo has officially committed to Clemson. The 6-foot-7 Mayo chose the Tigers over Penn State, Michigan, and USC. “I’m home! Let’s bring a Natty back to Clemson!” said Mayo in the Tweet.
Mayo was a part of the group that visited Clemson back at the beginning of the month. That weekend has been extremely fruitful for the Tigers as they have landed multiple big-time commitments since, including 5-star linebacker Sammy Brown.
On3 currently has Mayo ranked as the No. 89 player overall and the 8th-ranked edge rusher in the country. Mayo currently plays a lot of outside linebacker and stand-up defensive end, but his size and length - including a lot of room to grow - will likely see him with a hand on the ground at defensive end in college.
