CU Event Center crowd sings to Buffs mega fan Peggy Coppom for 99th birthday

A nice heartfelt moment as one half of the CU Twins nears the century mark

It's been a busy year of celebrations for Peggy Coppom.

The 98-year-old CU mega fan will add another accomplishment on Sunday as she turns another year wiser. That didn't stop from crowd at CU Event Center from helping Peggy usher in her special day early. They serenaded her by singing Happy Birthday during the CU men's basketball game against Milwaukee on Tuesday night. The moment brought Coppom to tears as she greatly appreciated the gesture.

Coppom, who made an appearance at CU's Spring Game for the kickoff to the football season, has been a local celebrity for a majority of the events around campus. She has danced with Coach Prime and Gronk, asked for her theme music in the locker room, and share some heartfelt moments along the way.

"She’s hilarious," CU coach Deion Sanders said about Peggy at the Spring Game. "The little quick comments that she may have, that (were) out there, (were) unbelievable. I'm pretty sure they caught it in my mic. But she’s fun, man. She’s good. I wish to God... I just want to make it that far and have the same smile and energy and love, just for life, as she does.”

Coppom has been attending sporting events at Colorado since 1939. She's one half of the famed CU twins. Peggy's late sister, Betty Hoover, passed away in 2020. She has missed only a few home games since buying season tickets in 1966.

Peggy is planning on taking Sanders' mom, Connie, for gambling trips to Blackhawk in the near future. It might be a good way for both to celebrate.
