Top-20 Wing Prospect Schedules Official Visit to Florida

Wing VJ Edgecombe, a top-20 player in the 2024 class set his official visit date to Florida and several other programs, on Tuesday.

Basketball recruiting is heating up in Gainesville.

As the 2023-24 college hoops season quickly approaches, the Gators have started to schedule preseason visits with top prospects in the 2024 class.

After locking in dates for forward prospects Ryan Jones Jr. and Sammie Yeanay recently, Todd Golden is set to welcome elite wing prospect VJ Edgecombe to campus Sept. 15-17.

He’ll take trips to other schools on his recently released top ten in the following weeks. The Long Island Lutheran (Glen Head, N.Y.) product shared his impending visit schedule with On3Sports on Tuesday.

It includes treks to Baylor, Michigan, Duke, Alabama and Florida State.

Seeing a late surge in his recruitment in the past year, Edgecombe has quickly climbed the ranks to be labeled as the nation’s No. 17 overall player and No. 5 small forward in the cycle.

Standing at 6-foot-5, 180 pounds, Edgecombe is an athletic, polished scoring threat with the ability to attack opposing teams from all three levels of the floor. As a result, he’d immediately bolster Florida’s scoring attack if he eventually chooses orange and blue as his collegiate color scheme.

His aforementioned athleticism and length present defensive upside for the next level, a combination that would allow him to fill a Will Richard-like role at the next level.

The Gators, as a result, will remain hot in pursuit until his awaited commitment decision is made.

Edgecombe will be joined at Florida by a fellow priority prospect down the stretch of the 2024 cycle as The Rock School (Gainesville) hybrid forward prospect, Jones, embarks on his official visit Sept. 15-17.

Jones included UF in his top eight on Monday.

Golden’s Gators will look to leave a lasting impression on each talent to lure them into the class alongside their lone 2024 commitment, Orlando-based guard Isaiah Brown.
