ACC Announces Florida State Basketball's 2023-24 Conference Schedule

Florida State's conference schedule for the upcoming season has been unveiled.

After the non-conference schedule was finalized in mid-August, all that was left was the conference schedule, which the ACC announced tonight on the Nothing But Net show on the ACC Network. Here is a look at the schedule.

The game everyone will be looking forward to (outside of your usual Tobacco Road schools) is Matthew Cleveland's return to Tallahassee, this time as a Miami Hurricane, on Senior Day, March 9. The junior wing from Alpharetta, GA spent two seasons at Florida State, including winning the ACC 6th Man of the Year trophy in the 2021-22 season, and hitting two near half-court buzzer beaters against Virginia and his new team Miami. It's not often you see someone switch from one in-state rival to another in basketball, but Cleveland is joining a team fresh off a run to the Final Four, and he's hoping to replicate it.

For the other big games, Duke will be playing Florida State in Tallahassee on February 17, and play North Carolina twice, the game in Chapel Hill is the first of the conference slate on December 2, while the game in Tallahassee will be on January 27. The away trip to Miami, where Cleveland hit the buzzer-beater last season, will be January 17th. Virginia, who despite losing a lot of talent should still be good, will play the 'Noles in Tallahassee February 27th.

There are no Big Monday games for Florida State, and there's not too many difficult stretches. The slate from January 27th-February 17 is probably the toughest, going vs UNC, at Louisville, at Boston College (a place FSU has struggled at recently), vs Virginia, at Virginia Tech, then finishing it off vs Duke. Overall, it's a very manageable schedule, with no more than two road games in a row, and they do start off January with three straight home ACC games against potentially lesser opponents in Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, and

Florida State is looking to rebound in a big way from last season, one that saw them finish just 9-23 and lose in the opening round of the ACC Tournament to Georgia Tech. They'll be getting Jaylan Gainey and Cam'Ron Fletcher back from injury, while they added Primo Spears, Jamir Watkins, and Josh Nickelberry in the transfer portal, Taylor Bol Bowen from the high school ranks, and Waka Mbatch from overseas. The hope is a healthy and deeper team will bring more success to Leonard Hamilton's squad this season.
