Big Ten Offensive Tackle Transfer Announces Return To School After Officially Visiting Florida State

The Seminoles missed out on a promising offensive tackle transfer just one day after he wrapped up his official visit to Tallahassee.

Florida State is looking to shore up multiple positions across its roster during the latest NCAA Transfer Portal window. The Seminoles have expressed interest in a variety of quarterbacks, defensive ends, and offensive linemen. The program has even hosted a couple of transfers for official visits already.

Over the last couple of days, FSU brought in Indiana offensive tackle transfer Carter Smith for a visit that spanned from Sunday to Tuesday. Smith was able to spend ample time around head coach Mike Norvell, offensive line coach, and offensive coordinator Alex Atkins, as well as current players on the team.

After taking trips to three different programs, Smith has made his decision regarding his future. On Wednesday night, he announced that he has decided to remain at Indiana and play under new head coach Curt Cignetti with a creative video on social media.

Smith has spent the first two years of his college career in Bloomington after signing with the Hoosiers as a four-star prospect in the 2022 class. He took over the starting left tackle job this past season and was on the field for nearly 800 snaps.

There's no doubt that Smith would've been a valuable option in Tallahassee with redshirt senior Bless Harris entering the transfer portal and question marks surrounding the health of Robert Scott. As of now, he's projected to be Indiana's only returning starter up front for the 2024 season.

Outside of Harris, the Seminoles will lose starting guards D'Mitri Emmanuel and Casey Roddick to graduation this offseason. Redshirt junior Robert Scott, redshirt junior Darius Washington, redshirt junior Maurice Smith, redshirt junior Jeremiah Byers, and redshirt junior Keiondre Jones all have eligibility to return next year, as do multiple other members of the unit.

Expect Florida State to continue monitoring potential fits along the offensive line in the transfer portal after an injury-riddled campaign prevented the room from reaching its potential this fall.
