Clemson Defense Preparing For 'A Multitude Of Problems' Against Jordan Travis, FSU Offense

The performance of Florida State's star quarterback could very well be the difference in snapping the losing streak against Clemson.

After what many fans expected to be an easy win against the Boston College Eagles, the Seminoles received what may be a blessing-in-disguise wake-up call with a 31-29 victory in Chestnut Hill during their first true road game of the 2023 season.

In Week 4, the 'Noles will once again be on the road, this time against rival Clemson. After losing to a top-25 Duke team to open the season, The Tigers have had two commanding victories over Charleston Southern and Florida Atlantic.

Earlier this week, Clemson offensive coordinator Garrett Riley and defensive coordinator Wes Goodwin had some words regarding the matchup against FSU in Death Valley.

Riley, who joined the Tigers coaching staff after leading the TCU Horned Frogs to a national title game appearance in the 2022 season, spoke highly of the experienced Florida State defense.

“They just got an experienced group that is explosive in all areas. playing really well. Guys that have played a lot of ball together," Riley said. “But super impressed watching them on tape. I think they played really hard. They fly around at all levels.”

Goodwin, who has been with the Tigers since 2018 and is in his second year as defensive coordinator, noted that FSU’s explosive offense will certainly be a challenge for the Tigers.

“A multitude of problems,” Goodwin said regarding Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis. “Great experience. He can extend plays with his feet. They can use him in the run game. He presents a lot of problems.”

Goodwin didn’t stop there when it came to highlighting some weapons on the Seminole’s offense, as he pointed out some of the dangers with 6-foot-7 wide receiver Johnny Wilson.

FSU tight end Jaheim Bell transferred from South Carolina in the offseason, but the Tigers want nothing to do with him as he was part of a Gamecock team that defeated Clemson in Death Valley, breaking a 40-game home win streak that dated back to 2016.

“He’s a huge huge problem. Always got to be aware of where number 6 is, because I think he is a vital piece of what they want to do offensively and how they want to attack you."

The 'Noles will face the Tigers for their second consecutive road game of the season on Saturday in Death Valley. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 PM ET, with the game being broadcast on ABC.
