Florida State wide receiver Destyn Hill's journey to becoming a college wideout has been a unique one. He was the top-rated recruit out of head coach Mike Norvell's 2021 recruiting class and was supposed to be a centerpiece until family issues derailed those plans and it would be two years before he finally joined the team. He's here now, and his mindset is simple -- compete and contribute to the Seminoles' success in 2023.

FSU is coming off a 10-3 season in 2022 and has high expectations heading into this year. He will be joining a very deep wide receiver room with lots of top transfers and returning players. Hill will be competing with players like wide receiver Johnny Wilson who led the team with 897 yards and five touchdowns and Michigan State transfer Keon Coleman who had 798 yards and seven scores a year ago. The competition will be tough and the former 4-star said he can't wait.

"It’s amazing and I’m proud of what the team has done over the last two years like I’ve been saying," Hill said in an interview with the media Wednesday morning. "I can’t wait to contribute and give what I have to offer.”

“I’m glad that it evolved the way it did and I’m waiting to see how we all play and how we all contribute to the program and I’m ready to see it," Hill continued.

Having not played a football game since 2020, one of the ways he's prepared to meet the goal of staying in shape and getting on the field early was training with his old coaches at Edna Karr high school in New Orleans, Louisiana.

"Edna Karr, that's home for me, that's where I feel most comfortable at. So that’s where I was at," Hill said. "I was working out with the best coaches in the city, and that probably explains why I am the way I am now and healthy."

Star quarterback Jordan Travis has developed into a leader on and off the field for the Seminoles over the past couple of years. He's made it a point to help Hill's transition be as smooth as possible.

“Jordan Travis is amazing," Hill said. "I think we all know he’s an amazing person and he’s an amazing leader so Jordan Travis has made this transition smoother.”

Cornerback Greedy Vance was a high school teammate of Hill and he was there to greet him when he arrived. Hill repeatedly stated that the team has welcomed him in and that he's ready for what is to come in Tallahassee.

"Getting with Greedy just made the transition easier. It’s a familiar face, a real familiar face -- not even just Greedy but the whole team. They showed love. I feel welcomed to Tallahassee, and I’m ready to go."

Finally, on the roster, Hill looks to make an impact in 2023.
