ESPN Ranks FSU Football No. 2 After Impressive Week 1 Win Over LSU

After Florida State handily defeated LSU, ESPN ranked the Seminoles as the No. 2 college football program.

Florida State made a statement that was heard loud and clear in Week 1. With a standalone Sunday night matchup against LSU, all eyes were on FSU. The first half was nothing short of hectic, but when things settled down in the second half, the Seminoles rolled all over LSU.

This earned Florida State respect from media nationwide, for obvious reasons. The hype surrounding the program was brewing all offseason, and they were even ranked No. 8 in the preseason AP rankings. The Seminoles backed this up in Week 1, defeating the then No. 5 Tigers in dominating fashion.

The national media respect continues, as ESPN ranked Florida State No. 2 in its Power Rankings at the conclusion of Week 1. The team trails only Georgia, who came into the season as the top-ranked team following back-to-back national championships.

"It is hard to remember the last time the Seminoles completely dismantled an opponent the way they did LSU in the second half of a 45-24 victory on Sunday night. It may very well have been during the 2013 national championship season, and this just happens to be its 10-year anniversary."

Not only is this Florida State team receiving a plethora of attention and hype, but they're also receiving comparisons to the 2013 national championship team, the same one that dominated their matchups weekly.

The team's offense is proving to be incredibly dangerous. Johnny Wilson and Keon Coleman lined up on different sides of the field leaves safeties in a position to pick their poison. They both are matchup nightmares and open the field up for each other.

Add transfer tight end Jaheim Bell into the mix - who received one touchdown while punching home another one on the ground - and Jordan Travis has plenty of weapons in the air to dice up opposing defenses. This doesn't even take into account the three-back run game that is more than capable of winning a game alone.

The Seminoles are proving to be a force to be reckoned with, and the national media is backing that up in the rankings. FSU slotted in at No. 4 in the latest AP Top-25 Poll on Tuesday afternoon.
