Florida State Defensive Tackle Darrell Jackson Reacts to NCAA Waiver Decision

"I don't know if they're trying to prove a point or what?"

Florida State defensive tackle Darrell Jackson has been through the highs and lows of the college football world and this past week might have been one of the hardest of his career. On Tuesday it was announced that a pending waiver from the NCAA to allow him to play this season had been denied.

"It was hurtful because I know what I came home for. I came home for my mom so for me I'm just trying to get through it and be here for my mom," Jackson said after the announcement. "She thinks it's her fault and it's not so I'm gonna continue to be there for my mom and see how things play out."

Jackson, nor FSU head coach Mike Norvell gave any specifics on why his waiver was denied and the talented defensive lineman was still unsure.

"I don't know if they're trying to prove a point or what?" Jackson said.

The Florida native transferred from the University of Miami in the offseason with hopes of playing in 2023 and although the news is tragic, Norvell said that after finding out, he had one of the best practices to date. That in itself spoke volumes about Jackson's mindset.

"I gotta make the team better. Everything about the team so I'm just doing whatever I can do to help the team out."

Still grinding steadily into day five of fall camp, the team was unaware of the situation until it was unveiled on Tuesday.

"To be honest, this might be the first day them boys know. I kept it in from the minute I heard. Today will be the first time hearing about it."

Whether or not Jackson will be able to participate this upcoming season is still unclear and the process can be a tricky one. He plans to continue to be with his teammates as preseason camp rolls on while waiting for clarification on his status for the 2023 season.
