Quarterback Room Review: FSU Spring Showcase Edition
The FSU Spring Game is quickly approaching with one day remaining until kickoff. The excitement growing around Tallahassee is tangible as the 'Noles get their first opportunity to showcase their hard work in front of fans tuning in and joining the event. Florida State announced its lineup for guest coaches earlier in the week, featuring National Champions and Heisman winners, but that is only one of the storylines come Saturday.

There aren't many questions about who QB1 is heading into the season, as Jordan Travis has solidified his role in the offense. Travis threw for 3214 yards, totaling 24 touchdowns through the air, adding 417 on the ground and another seven scores last season, and looks to make another run in a year with high expectations for the 'Noles.
The guys behind Travis are redshirt junior Tate Rodemaker, redshirt freshman AJ Duffy and true freshman Brock Glenn, all of whom have made significant strides throughout spring.
NoleGameday sat down and discussed what we would like to see during the showcase and where the quarterback room stands for the Seminoles.
Q. What are some of the key strengths and weaknesses of the QB room?
Tommy: There is a similar trait within the quarterback room: being able to escape and throw on the run. All four quarterbacks are at different stages in developing that skill, but they have also shown the ability to make big plays with their arms and legs at times. Their weaknesses include the game's speed, tucking and running if their first read is taken away, inexperience in the offense, and forcing balls downfield instead of taking an incompletion.
Logan: Luckily your biggest strength in the quarterback room is a returning starter with Heisman potential in Jordan Travis to help guide a room that truly needs leadership. A weakness that stands out is the inexperience behind QB1. Expecting to see Norvell give a lot of playing time to Tate Rodemaker, AJ Duffy, and Brock Glenn. Primarily the last two names will be put in awkward and weird situations which Norvell strives for, not allowing his players to get too comfortable. The guys behind Travis need to grow in 2023.
Dustin: The key to me in this room is what Jordan Travis brings to the Seminoles on the field and in the locker room. He's the X-Factor in more ways than one as his experience and willingness to help out the other players in the room is a rare quality. I agree with Logan that a weakness in the quarterback room is the lack of experience behind Travis. Tate Rodemaker was able to lead the Seminoles to a comeback victory last season and possesses a higher floor than AJ Duffy. At the same time, Duffy and true freshman Brock Glenn hold more potential that will need to be tapped out over the course of their development.
Q. Who do you think takes the spotlight out of Rodemaker, Duffy and Glenn?
Tommy: Like many people, I want to see Duffy get enough reps to get more of a sense of what he's like in a "live game" for more than a few series' against the backups. Rodemaker is the most experienced of the three, so I imagine he flashes. Glenn will impress people the most, I think, with how quickly he's learned the offense.
Logan: True freshman quarterback Brock Glenn flashed early to me on day one with his leadership characteristics. I wasn't expecting that, at least this early. That's going to stand out on Saturday but overall I think AJ Duffy will have the chance to show the growth he's made as we've seen in practices. Mike Norvell and quarterbacks' coach Tony Tokarz have both raved over their young quarterback's smarts and attention to detail this offseason but now it needs to translate onto the field in game-like scenarios. I'm expecting to see growth.
Dustin: It's a tough choice but I'm going to go with true freshman Brock Glenn. The only newcomer in a room that is filled with players who have already spent at least one year at Florida State, he hasn't backed down this spring despite being challenged with the playbook. The coaching staff hasn't held back during practices, installing a lot of the offense to prepare for the fall. Glenn never blinked and has been putting together some of his best days towards the tail end of camp.
Q. Which quarterback and receiver duo will make the most impact?
Tommy: Vandrevious Jacobs and AJ Duffy
Logan: Tommy is stealing Vandrevious Jacobs away from me but it's a great pick, he'll connect with about any quarterback as we've seen through spring camp. I'm going to go Tate Rodemaker and Kentron Poitier. Poitier is a sleeper pick for me to be a potential starter in 2023 if he can stay healthy.
Dustin: Vandrevius Jacobs is the trendy pick and he very well should be after an impressive spring camp. I'll jump into the slot with Ja'Khi Douglas and Tate Rodemaker.
Q. Which quarterback has made the biggest leap during spring?
Tommy: I think that Brock Glenn has made significant strides throughout spring. Glenn being as new as he is to the program and how fast he's learning the offense is impressive given he's been on campus for around six months.
Logan: I'm going to give some credit to AJ Duffy and the strides he has made through spring which were much needed but Jordan Travis takes this. According to the entire coaching staff, Travis has hit a different level and is leading in a different demeanor this spring. He could have easily ridden into camp relaxed with all of the national love and attention but he's 'cranked it up' 13 practices straight.
Dustin: Jordan Travis. Every year he finds a way to keep improving his game, evidenced by his continued and growing success over his time at Florida State. Once again, he's perfecting his craft and appears primed to be even better this upcoming season than he was in 2022. That's a scary thing to consider for the teams on the Seminoles' schedule with the offensive line and number of weapons returning around him.
