WATCH: Cam Akers Score His First Touchdown With The Minnesota Vikings

The former Seminole scored his first touchdown since being traded earlier this season.

The last couple of years have been tough for former Florida State running back Cam Akers. He worked his way back from an Achilles injury following his rookie season and put himself in position for a career year in 2022 where he recorded 188 carries for 786 yards with seven rushing touchdowns.

Despite the success, Akers was on rocky ground with the Los Angeles Rams after picking up two DNPs earlier in the season. That carried into this year where his role was significantly limited following the first game prior to him being traded to the Minnesota Vikings in September.

Akers has been ramping up in the backfield behind Alexander Mattison over the last couple of weeks. After recording ten carries in a win over the San Francisco 49ers, he continued to play a sizable role with nine rushes in the most recent victory against Green Bay.

During the course of the 24-10 win, Akers scored his first touchdown in purple and gold on a six-yard run in the opening quarter to give the Vikings the lead. He finished the game with nine carries for 19 yards and a score.

It wouldn't be surprising if he continues to even the carry count with Mattison as the season continues to progress. Akers still has plenty of talent and could develop into the weapon he was thought to be when he came out of Florida State in the 2020 NFL Draft.

On the season, Akers has totaled 52 rushes for 142 yards and two touchdowns on the ground while catching eight passes for 57 yards.
