BREAKING: Former Florida State Star Running Back Traded to the Minnesota Vikings

Another Seminole great will carry the rock in the North Star State.

Former Florida State running back Cam Akers has been traded from the Los Angeles Rams to the Minnesota Vikings, according to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network. The trade includes a swap of 2026 draft picks, and the Vikings once again have another former Seminole running back on the roster.

The Rams made Akers inactive this past weekend, in a move that left even him confused, as they looked to move him to a different team, following a Week 1 game where he saw 22 carries for just 29 yards. He'll be reunited with his former offensive coordinator from L.A. in Minnesota's head coach, Kevin O'Connell, and the current Vikings offensive coordinator, Wes Phillips, who was the tight ends coach for the Rams during their Super Bowl LVI run.

The Vikings are looking to revitalize a rushing attack that is last in the NFL in rushing yards per game, ties for last in rushing touchdowns, and second to last in yards per carry. Releasing another former FSU star, Dalvin Cook didn't do anything to help their cause. They've also recently signed offensive lineman Dalton Risner to help.

Akers was selected in the 2nd round of the 2020 NFL Draft with the 52nd overall pick by the Rams, following a stellar career at Florida State that saw him amass 2,875 rushing yards and 27 rushing touchdowns in three seasons. This also included a Third Team All-ACC selection in 2017 and a Second Team All-ACC selection in 2019.

It's been an up-and-down career for the Mississippi native thus far in the NFL. He started with a solid rookie season of 625 rushing yards and two touchdowns while splitting carries with Darrell Henderson before tearing his Achilles tendon during a workout before his second season in 2021. Akers came back and played during the Rams' Super Bowl run that same year with O'Connell as the offensive coordinator. He'll finish his Rams career with 1,443 rushing yards and ten touchdowns.
