There's never an easy path to sticking in the NFL as an undrafted free agent. It takes unmatched dedication, talent, and a little bit of luck as well to put together a career at the professional level.

There aren't many harder workers out there than former Florida State wide receiver Ontaria 'Pokey' Wilson. Following a career in Tallahassee where he led the team in receiving in 2020-21 and then had his most productive season (30 catches, 395 yards, 4 TDs) as a senior, he landed with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent.

Since joining the team at the beginning of May, Wilson has steadily made his fair share of plays. He caught a couple of deep balls from starting quarterback Justin Herbert, including one absolutely insane grab, during Mini-Camp.

Wilson is continuing to make plays for the Chargers early in training camp. He recently scored a touchdown during 7-on-7 work. Wilson worked across the field and found just enough space in the back of the end zone to get two feet down with a pair of defenders in the area.

It's another encouraging sign that Wilson is improving his odds of potentially sticking with Los Angeles on the 53-man roster or practice squad. The next step will be producing during preseason games. The Chargers are set to open up their schedule on Saturday against the Los Angeles Rams.

At this point, there are four players on the Chargers' roster that hail from Florida State; Wilson, Derwin James, Asante Samuel Jr., and Dustin Hopkins.

Wilson played for three different head coaches and three different wide receivers coaches during his six years in Tallahassee. He began to display consistent promise when Norvell arrived in town in 2020.

The Georgia native appeared in 51 games, with 36 starts, and caught 108 passes for 1,521 yards and 12 touchdowns through the air while rushing seven times for 57 yards and another score on the ground with the Seminoles. He tied his career-high with seven catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns in a one-point victory against LSU in New Orleans.
