Five-Star DB KJ Bolden Will 'Probably' Take An Official Visit to FSU After Latest Experience in Tallahassee

The Seminoles made a strong impression on one of the top players in the country during his multiday unofficial visit.

Florida State's coaching staff is staying busy on the recruiting trail in June. Whether it's hosting official visitors, summer camps, or bringing in top talent during the middle of the week, the Seminoles haven't slowed down over the last couple of weeks.

On Wednesday, five-star defensive back and top-ten prospect KJ Bolden wrapped up a multiday unofficial visit to FSU. The goal for the Seminoles coming into the trip was to make an impression and secure an official visit. It sounds like the coaching staff was able to do just that.

"It was great. Coach Norvell and staff, coach Surtain, coach Fuller, they all show me great love up here," Bolden said to NoleGameday's Dustin Lewis. "I definitely feel welcomed every time I come up here. They always meet me at the door every time, definitely make their presence felt for sure."

After previously checking out Tallahassee in April, Bolden went into detail about why he decided to return to Florida State this summer. He also noted that he will 'probably' be back for an official visit during the season, possibly the Miami game in November.

"Ya'll know Florida State's my dream school for me. Even though they started recruiting me later on down the road, it's still like the love I've got for this school didn't go away," Bolden said. "I've definitely got to come down here again, check it out. I'm probably going to be back for an official during the season for one of the games. Might come back for that Miami game or something like that but yeah definitely just love it down here for sure."

The Georgia native attended the team's morning workouts on Tuesday. His relationship with defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. has grown over the last few months. Bolden is familiar with his NFL pedigree and is a fan of his no-nonsense approach.

"Our bond is real tight. Their recruiting pitch is like real. Like some schools they'll recruit you and be fake with it and tell you stuff you want to hear even though it's not true," Bolden said. "Coach Surtain, his recruiting pitch is definitely real. He's going to keep it real with you and he's been in the NFL. He knows a lot about the game, he can teach you a lot. He taught me a lot of new things over the week so that's definitely my guy for sure."

Bolden also spent a lot of time with head coach Mike Norvell. He says that Norvell's message stood out to him during his time on campus.

"It was definitely great being around him. He was just telling me 'why not be different?' They're building a special class with Kam and Landen and the quarterback, Luke," Bolden said. "So he's like why not be a part of this class and have Florida State be back to where it used to be. The last two years they've definitely been getting better and he feels like this year they're going to do great."

"It definitely stood out to me," Bolden continued. "Florida State, they definitely rose their chances with me when I came down here. Definitely liking the school a lot right now for sure."

Outside of the coaching staff, multiple commitments in the 2024 class are doing their part to get Bolden to Florida State. That includes four-star running back Kam Davis, who kicked off the class with his commitment more than two years ago.

"Them boys definitely recruiting me a lot, especially Kam. He's from Georgia and then Landen so they definitely staying on me a lot," Bolden said. "They're also trying to get Charles too so they are really just trying to make sure that backend is straight for sure."

Bolden met with multiple defensive backs on the team and described the message he heard from them.

"I talked to all the DBs. They was telling me just come in and work hard, build a relationship," Bolden said. "Make sure you build a lot of relationships. That's the only way your team goes far during the season, you've got to have a lot of great relationships and make sure the locker room is right. They definitely mentioned that for sure.

The Seminoles will continue to work at locking down a concrete date for Bolden's official visit. He wants to watch the team compete in a rivalry game and experience the atmosphere.

"Really just want to get lit with the fans. Miami game, it's going to be real packed down here. Just want to see a great gameday experience, see the guys go out there and compete. I heard this year the team's looking very nice so hopefully go out there and get us a natty."

Coming out of the trip, Bolden noted that Florida State sits among his top-5. He has an official visit to Alabama this weekend ahead of the dead period with the goal to announce a decision by the end of July or August.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound defensive back is regarded as the No. 7 overall prospect, the No. 1 S, and the No. 2 recruit in the state of Georgia in the 2024 class according to 247Sports.
