Four-Star DB Jalewis Solomon Names Florida State Leader After 'Great' Official Visit

The Seminoles have taken the lead for Solomon after a memorable trip to Tallahassee.

Many of Florida State's commitments and top targets in the 2024 class took official visits over the weekend. The group of talented prospects included four-star defensive back Jalewis Solomon, his brother (2025 five-star linebacker Zayden Walker), and multiple other family members.

Coming out of the trip, Solomon made it clear that Florida State is the 'for sure' leader in his recruitment. The coaching staff held the last visit prior to his upcoming decision and seemed to check off all the boxes.

"Right now, Florida State's probably No. 1 right now," Solomon said to NoleGameday's Dustin Lewis. "No. 1 for sure. All I needed was this last visit and they set it off. They never disappointed."

What did FSU do during the visit to impress Solomon enough to take charge of his recruitment?

"Just telling me how big of a priority I always was to the program and telling me whenever I'm ready just come on," Solomon said.

The Seminoles provided Solomon with a visit worth remembering during his 48 hours in Tallahassee. They made it clear how much of a priority he is to the program.

"It was great. It was one to remember, one to remember," Solomon said. "For one, they told me how big of a priority I was here and I just love the culture behind Tallahassee and it always feels like home every time I come back. Like I said, I always feel like a fit here."

An important part of this trip was figuring out where Solomon fits into Florida State's plans. He says that the Seminoles are recruiting him as a cornerback and have also discussed ways to get the ball into his hands.

"They see me as a man corner and they said I'm big and physical [enough] to even play nickel if I have to," Solomon said. "I'll be working both of those positions and if they need to get the ball in my hands they'll put me at returning or anything to touch the ball."

With multiple premier programs recruiting him to play on both sides of the ball, Solomon appeared to click with where FSU is projecting him.

"I'll do anything for this program to get them back up to the level that they used to be," Solomon said. "I'm willing to do anything for this team."

Defensive coordinator Adam Fuller, who works with the safeties, and defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. spent the majority of time with Solomon. He's already built a tight relationship with Surtain Sr.

"Me and coach Surtain really tight," Solomon said. "We went over the playbook, we watched film together, I even wrote down all the plays. Our relationship is like tight already."

The Georgia native was hosted by redshirt junior cornerback Greedy Vance. After just coming to Florida State from Louisville last year, Greedy told Solomon how he's fit into the program since.

"He told me his culture behind Tallahassee and he was a Louisville transfer," Solomon said. "He told me why he came here and why he never made a mistake so I took pride in that."

While spending time with Vance and other players on the team, he noticed just how connected the roster is at Florida State. That was one of the parts of the visit that stood out the most.

"The relationship with the guys for sure. It felt like everybody was a brother and I felt a part of that even being out with the guys," Solomon said. "The biggest thing was the relationship, the relationship everyone has with each other.

Solomon is working towards a decision after officially visiting Florida State, Kentucky, and South Carolina in June. He has plans to officially visit Auburn during the season with Texas A&M also in his top five.

After his experience in Tallahassee, Solomon is considering an announcement in August or September. What will be the biggest factor in separating one school from the pack?

"I'll go anywhere I feel like I'm wanted and like I said, relationships, seeing how the guys are so close together. They went everywhere with each other." Solomon said. "I like that brotherhood they have. I've got to feel comfortable, I've got to love the head coach, and I have to love the people outside of football. That's about it."

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound defensive back is regarded as the No. 200 overall prospect, the No. 16 ATH, and the No. 28 recruit in the state of Georgia in the 2024 class.
