Florida State's Coaching Staff Impresses Five-Star WR Cam Coleman during Elite Camp

The Seminoles already have four wide receivers committed but are making a play for one of the top prospects in the country.

Phenix City, Alabama native and five-star wide receiver Cam Coleman is coming off his third unofficial visit to the Florida State Seminoles, who invited him to see how they operate and participate in the 2023 FSU Elite Camp this past weekend. The camp was filled with top-ranked prospects from across the country, including FSU commits like quarterback Luke Kromenhoek, running back Kam Davis, wide receiver BJ Gibson and tight end Landen Thomas.

"This visit was different," Coleman said to NoleGameday's Tommy Mire. "I got to see behind the scenes, the playbook a little bit, and it was just a great, great learning experience about the culture and the program itself."

Coleman had 31 receptions for 542 yards and six touchdowns during his junior year. He is the fifth-ranked receiver in the 2024 class and the 17th player nationally. With his potential, he will likely shine at the next level and seemed to appreciate what wide receivers coach Ron Dugans and head coach Mike Norvell had to offer.

"They helped me with my stance. They helped me with the top of my routes, getting out of my breaks they helped me with, like, changing tempos in my route," Coleman said. "All the coaches out here are very intense. They want you at your best abilities and say they want you at your best."

Player investment also played a crucial role in how he viewed the Seminoles. Along with the culture and atmosphere, paying attention to the details of the game really stood out.

"The way that they really invest time in their players in the meeting room, helping them with the small details and paying attention to where you line up and stuff, really just the small details."

Coleman has 25 offers from other schools outside of FSU. He's officially visited Clemson and Auburn. With the recruiting dead period coming up on June 26, there were a few places he could have been taking official visits to last weekend, but he said that he wanted to be in Tallahassee.

"Oh yeah. I really could be anywhere right now. I could be on an official visit anywhere, but I chose to come here because of where they stand on my list, " Coleman added. "I feel like it's a good program here. It's a great program here. They're an upcoming program. Coach Norvell, he has something special going on here, and I wanted to experience it."

Throughout the rest of June, the 6-foot-3 180-pound receiver out of Central High School has official visits scheduled for Texas A&M and LSU but said he would take an official to Florida State this upcoming season for a game.

"My favorite part, on gameday, when they run out on the horse, and they have the spear, it's just a great atmosphere with the fireworks going. It's just an amazing atmosphere and a great culture that they've got going on here."
