Mike Norvell Thinks Florida State Would Be The Best Fit For Three-Star DB Kevin Levy

The Seminoles are closing in on an athletic and versatile defensive back that can play all over the secondary.

It was a busy weekend for Florida State with six prospects in Tallahassee for official visits. The past couple of days featured some of the program's top targets in the defensive backfield, including three-star athlete Kevin Levy, who was joined by his family.

The Seminoles showed Levy why he's a priority to the school during the trip.

"The visit was amazing," Levy said to NoleGameday's Dustin Lewis. "The player relationship with the coaches and like them just breaking it down that I'm a top priority for them and I'm a great fit for Florida State."

After taking two unofficial visits to Florida State throughout the year, this visit revolved around getting more feedback from the players. It gave him a different perspective of the program.

"My favorite thing was really when coach Norvell let us talk to the players and ask questions about how Florida State is and what it is," Levy said. "They were just keeping it real with us about how Florida State is and the culture and what they go by."

"It was really better for me to talk to the players more to see how it really is, how the school is, and what made them come here," Levy continued. "It was really great to get to communicate with them."

The Florida native was hosted by cornerback Greedy Vance which allowed for a unique conversation since he just joined the program last year. Levy was also with safety Akeem Dent and safety Jaden Floyd.

"I talked to him a lot. I was just asking him a lot of questions because he just came here last year, transferring from Louisville. I was with Akeem Dent and also J-Dub," Levy said. "I was just like chopping it up with them a lot about how it is getting coached by Pat Surtain and how coach Adam Fuller is and what they think about the school and why they came here."

The trio of players had great things to say about defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. That's pretty encouraging to hear since Surtain Sr. has yet to coach the unit in an actual game.

"The perspective they gave me was really coach Surtain, he's a great dude, he knows what he's doing," Levy said. "The technique they use, they play a lot of man too so that's a great thing. Coach Surtain, he was just breaking it down - the coverages they run, why they do this and that."

Another important piece of information that was conveyed to Levy was about head coach Mike Norvell.

"The best thing I heard was really coach Norvell keep it real 100%," Levy said. "He tell you what it is and he'll never lie to you or show you any bad things."

Prior to concluding his official visit on Sunday, Levy sat down with coach Norvell for a meeting in his office. The head coach made it clear that he thinks Florida State is the best fit for him.

"The meeting was great," Levy said. "He was really telling me why they want me here at Florida State, why he thinks Florida State would be the best fit for me and anytime I feel like I can come, I can come."

The Seminoles believe that Levy is a versatile defensive back who can play cornerback, nickel, or safety at the college level. He doesn't have a preference for his future but acknowledges it'll probably be on the outside.

This visit was a little sentimental as Levy got to have more family than usual around him. This was due to his cousin and four-star cornerback Ricky Knight III also taking an official visit to Florida State. There's a possibility that the two may end up at the same school.

"Whatever decision is best for him and whatever decision is best for me is," Levy said. "If that ends up happening and we play college ball together it would be great."

Levy will visit Illinois next week after previously checking out Louisville and Rutgers in June. The Seminoles continue to sit high on his list following the official visit.

He plans to narrow his recruitment down and possibly make a decision in July. Levy says that he'll be back in Tallahassee this fall for a home game.

"They definitely in my top-5. They definitely a big priority for me," Levy said.

The 6-foot, 170-pound defensive back is regarded as the No. 688 overall prospect, the No. 71 ATH, and the No. 102 recruit in the state of Florida in the 2024 class according to 247Sports.
