Three-Star DT Alex January Checks Out FSU After Rave Reviews From Pair Of Former Teammates

It was a memorable trip as he was able to reconnect with two former teammates from Duncanville High School that are now in Tallahassee - offensive lineman Jaylen Early and tight end Jerrale Powers.
"I had a good time. Met a couple players," January said to NoleGameday's Dustin Lewis. "I know a couple of players already that I went to high school with. I liked all of the coaches, really, so I had a good time."
Both redshirt freshmen, Early and Powers have spent a year at Florida State and have told January good things about the program. He wanted to come and experience it for himself.
"Early and Jerrale they speak very highly of this place," January said. "I had to come see what they're talking about."
"He said it's hard work and you're going to be held accountable," January continued. "Whatever they're doing it's for you."
Some of the most memorable parts of the visit were spending time with the players and a cooking competition between the other recruits. January believed he should've won.
"I had a fun time hanging out with the players," January said. "We did like a cooking thing. We had like a cooking competition with all of the recruits. I had fun doing that."
January spent an ample amount of time with defensive line coach Odell Haggins throughout the weekend. He enjoyed his time around Haggins.
"We were talking about football," January said. "I really match the criteria and that they can really build me into something."
"It was fun. He's got a lot of experience. I can tell," January continued.
The Texas native arrived on Friday afternoon in head coach Mike Norvell's car. He came out of the trip impressed with Norvell's energy and approach.
"I like Norvell. He got a lot of energy," January said. "I like coaches with a lot of energy."
"He says if you're not willing to work hard then this isn't the place for you," January continued. "He kept it straight up with me."
Coming out of the trip, the Seminoles are in the running for January's commitment. He's planning to announce a decision right before his senior season.
January also officially visited Texas Tech and LSU in June. He'll close the month at Texas, a school that his father played at in the 1980s. The next step will be cutting his recruitment down to a top three.
The 6-foot-4, 325-pound defensive tackle is regarded as the No. 503 overall prospect, the No. 49 DL, and the No. 87 recruit in the state of Texas in the 2024 class according to 247Sports.
