Sophomore Spring: Year Two Players that Need Big Performances

As Spring practice quickly approaches, Georgia has several second-year players that could use big performances over the next couple of months.

Spring practice is rapidly approaching for the Georgia football program which means we are closer to getting the first look at the team the Bulldogs will be fielding in 2023. The next couple of months is crucial from a development standpoint and for players to get a good idea of where they stand on the depth chart.

The reigning back-to-back national champs have a long list of players who are entering their second season as collegiate footballs, and for several of them, this Spring will be crucial. They had the opportunity to get their feet wet in year one, and now it's full go as year two approaches.

Bear Alexander, DT

The door has opened up a little bit at the defensive tackle position with Jalen Carter now off to the NFL, and Alexander is someone who could take advantage of that. He saw an uptick in his playing time as the 2022 season progressed and even posted a sack and two tackles for loss in the national championship game. There were spurts in which Alexander showed massive potential as a player, and he could really solidify himself into the mix with a strong Spring.

Daylen Everette, DB

Another position group that will have a battle on its hands due to a player headed off to the NFL is cornerback. With Kelee Ringo now off to bigger things, there will be a lot of eyes watching to see who comes out on top at the second cornerback spot alongside Kamari Lassiter. Everette appears to be the early favorite to take over the job, but it won't just be given to him. There are a lot of talented names such as Nyland Green who will be battling it out for that spot which means Everette will need to put together a strong Spring performance to make sure he comes out on top.

Christen Miller, DL

Miller was a big-time recruit coming out of high school, and now with a full season under his belt, he will look to take a big step forward this offseason. He didn't see much playing time during his freshman season, but as stated before, there will be an opportunity for guys on the defensive line to move their names up the depth chart. He doesn't necessarily need to launch himself all the way into a starting role, but where Miller is on the depth chart when Spring practice comes to a close will be a good indicator of how he is progressing as a collegiate football player.

Dillon Bell, WR

Despite bringing in Rara Thomas from Mississippi State via the transfer portal, the X spot in the wide receiver corp is very much up for grabs. Bell pieced together a solid true freshman season as he reeled in 20 receptions, for 180 receiving yards and three touchdowns. AD Mitchell making the move to Texas opens the door for players like Bell, and if he has an explosive Spring, he might just find himself as the front-runner to be one of the starting wide receivers for Georgia this upcoming season.
