The Southeastern Conference announced today that the two-time defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs will open SEC play against the South Carolina Gamecocks on Sept. 16 at 3:30 pm in a nationally televised game set to be broadcast by CBS.

The game between the Bulldogs and Gamecocks will serve as the SEC on CBS game of the week season opener.

CBS is entering the final season of its contract with the SEC as the league’s new 10-year contract with ESPN that stipulates all SEC football games will be broadcast on ESPN’s family of networks goes into effect beginning with the 2024 college football season.

Georgia has dominated the series between the two border rivals, winning 7 of the last 8 meetings and leading the all-time series 54-19-2. The Bulldogs won the last between the two SEC East division foes in Athens in blowout fashion, 40-13. Last season in Columbia, Georgia once again dominated South Carolina by a score of 48-7. Georgia is 30-9 overall against South Carolina in Athens, with the Bulldogs’ last home loss to the Gamecocks coming in 2019 when the home team fell 20-17 in double overtime.
