Bulldogs Bolster Heisman Arguments in Saturday's Win
The Heisman Memorial Trophy is one of the most prestigious awards in all sports. Determined by a committee of voters, the award is given to college football's most excellent player in a single season.
Prior to Stetson Bennett's excellent 2022 season, it had been nearly 30 years since a Georgia Bulldog had even been selected as a finalist for the trophy ceremony. However, after these Bulldogs' past few performances, there is a chance that Georgia could once again be represented in New York come December.
Brock Bowers
Heading into the 2023 season, Bowers was labeled as the nation's best tight end and possibly one of college football's most dominant offensive players. While his first few outings were relatively quiet, Bowers has now turned in three straight 100-yard performances including his most recent, a 132-yard outing against the 20th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats. Bowers currently leads all tight ends in total receiving yards with 545.
Carson Beck
Despite the early season criticisms by some, Beck has been extremely efficient with the football. The Jacksonville, Florida native has completed 73.5% of his passes and has thrown for more than 260 yards in all six of his appearances this season. In his most recent outing against Kentucky, Beck completed 80% of his passes on his way to a career-high 389 passing yards.
Should these Bulldogs continue to turn in dominant performances such as these in the back half of the 2023 regular season. There is an excellent chance that Georgia will once again be represented in the Heisman Trophy Ceremony.
