Georgia Basketball vs Alabama Preview
The Georgia Bulldogs will travel to Tuscaloosa this Saturday to face the Alabama Crimson Tide in what is sure to be their most difficult contest of the season. This will be the 150th meeting between these two teams in a series that Alabama leads 52-97.
Following a rough start to 2023, the Bulldogs have once again started a winning streak, putting together a pair of SEC wins against LSU and Kentucky. However, winning their next game will arguably be the season's biggest challenge as the Dawgs are currently 18.5-point underdogs against the Tide.
After holding the No.1 ranking in the nation for the majority of the season, the Crimson Tide were defeated by the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville this past Wednesday. Head coach Nate Oats and his team will look to rebound on their home court against what is in all honesty, an inferior Georgia program.
This year's game will also have a revenge factor as last year's meeting between the two teams saw the Dawgs pull off an upset victory in Athens in what was Georgia's only SEC win of the 2021-22 season. The Tide's loss was also subsequently just 15 days after Georiga defeated Alabama in the 2022 College Football National Championship.
To pull off an upset over the Tide, the Bulldogs will need an all-around elite offensive performance from its starting five and bench. Center Braelen Bridges has seemingly found his stride, as he has averaged 17 points in his last three appearances. Bridges' ability to control the paint offensively and deny Alabama's offense second-chance shots will be imperative for Georgia to leave "T-town" with a win. The Bulldogs will also need a major bounce-back performance from leading scorer Terry Roberts, who scored just six points in Tuesday's win over LSU.
While Alabama certainly has one of the most well-rounded teams in the nation, Brandon Miller will likely be the player to give the Bulldogs the most trouble. The forward is currently averaging over 18 points and 8 rebounds this season and has reached double-digits in every game this year but one. While Miller is not the only dangerous player on a loaded Bama roster, neutralizing him will be a major step in the right direction for the Bulldogs.
