Jalen Carter Selected 9th Overall by the Philadelphia Eagles
Jalen Carter becomes the first Bulldog off the board in the 2023 NFL Draft after being selected eighth overall by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Carter's selection marks the second consecutive draft in which a Georgia defensive lineman is taken in the first round. The previous two, Jordan Davis and Devonte Wyatt were selected 13th and 28th overall respectively during the 2022 NFL Draft.
Carter's draft stock took a major hit during the draft process after finishing the season as the consensus No. 1 overall player in the draft. As draft night approached, character questions and concerns surrounding Carter ultimately impacted his draft stock. However, he's still the second highest-rated defensive lineman drafted in the Kirby Smart era behind only Travon Walker.
He joins fellow former Georgia Bulldogs Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean on the Eagles, as they were 2021 draft picks for the Super Bowl runner up Eagles.
Coming out of Apopka HS, in Apopka, Florida, Carter was a 247Sports.com composite five-star prospect, #18 player nationally...ESPN.com four-star prospect, ranked as the #12 prospect nationally, #3 DT nationally and the #5 prospect in Florida.
The Eagles Defensive line now consists of Hasson Reddick, Jalen Carter, Fletcher Cox, Josh Sweat, Brandon Graham, and Jordan Davis.
