REPORT: Mike Bobo to Be Named the Offensive Coordinator

Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken is head to the NFL to coach for the Baltimore Ravens. Here's what it means for Georgia, and who they might hire. `

Kirby Smart is no stranger to losing coordinators in the offseason during his tenure as the head coach at the University of Georgia. Mel Tucker (DC) and Jim Chaney (OC) departed in 2018. He replaced offensive coordinator James Coley in 2019, that same season his assistant head coach and the first hire at Georgia in the form of offensive line coach Sam Pittman left to become a head coach at Arkansas. He most recently lost defensive coordinator Dan Lanning to Oregon.

It's not a matter of if he will lose a prominent coach on the staff, it's a matter of when. Tuesday was when for the Bulldogs as three-year offensive coordinator Todd Monken opted to accept the offensive coordinating position for the Baltimore Ravens. In three seasons at Georgia, Monken raised the average points per game by nearly 10 points and played an integral role in consecutive national titles.

Now, the back-to-back champs are without a coordinator. So, what's next for the Dawgs? Well, the answer was in the building all along.

Mike Bobo was brought on staff to be an offensive analyst a year ago, but he might as well have just been named offensive coordinator in waiting. Reports from the Athletic are already surfacing that Bobo has been named the offensive coordinator.

Bobo most recently called plays at Auburn and South Carolina after a head coaching stent at Colorado State, though most will Georgia fans will remember his days as offensive coordinator at Georgia under previous head coach Mark Richt.
