Why Winning an SEC Title is so Important for Georgia in 2023

Though Georgia has now won back-to-back national titles, there is another major milestone that the team has still yet to accomplish
In this story:

The past two seasons have been nothing short of historic for the University of Georgia's football program. In that short time, the Dawgs have won back-to-back titles, had a perfect season, and reached other feets too abundant to list. But as hopes of a "three-peat" national title surround the city of Athens. The Dawgs must first accomplish something they have never done in their program's history. Repeat their SEC Title.

Despite repeating national titles in 2022 and the fact that a trip to Atlanta in December seems like a regular occurrence under Kirby Smart. The Bulldogs surprisingly have never officially won back-to-back SEC Championships (This also includes championships awarded in the 1930s when Georgia Tech and Tulane were still in the conference).

In fact, history would state that winning the SEC Championship game is a massive challenge for Georgia. Since the creation of the title game in 1992, the Bulldogs have appeared in an impressive 10 total SEC Championships. However, of those 10 games, they have won just a total of four.

The Bulldogs have had a handful of opportunities to accomplish this milestone. In fact, Georgia returned to Atlanta the following year after winning the title two out of three times (The 2023 season has not been played yet). The most recent opportunity came in the 2018 season following Georgia's 2017 national title appearance. The Bulldogs were defeated by Alabama in that game by a score of 35-28.

While the Bulldog's historic accomplishment of back-to-back national titles is undoubtedly a much harder feat than repeating in the SEC. Winning the SEC Championship in the 2023 season would be a massive accomplishment that should not be overlooked by Georgia fans.
