Georgia Tech Offense Goes Quiet In 5-0 Loss vs Pitt

Georgia Tech will need to win tomorrow's game vs the Panthers

After winning a crucial game last night against Pitt, Georgia Tech came into game two with a chance to win the series and remain in the ACC Tournament. The Yellow Jackets came into the series not included in the tournament field, but they moved ahead of the Panthers with a win last night.

Tonight, Aeden Finateri was on the mound and he was hoping to continue the pitching momentum from the first game, where the Yellow Jackets only gave up one run on three hits.

Here was the starting lineup for tonight's game:

1. 2B- Kristian Campbell

2. CF- Jake DeLeo

3. RF- Stephen Reid

4. IF- Angelo Dispigna

5. 1B- John Giesler

6. 3B- Drew Compton

7. DH- Jackson Finley

8. SS- Jadyn Jackson

9. C- Tyler Minnick

It was a great start for Finateri on the mound through the first two innings, only allowing one hit and striking out four batters.

The offense for the Yellow Jackets had a hard time getting going through the first couple of innings. Campbell and DeLeo struck out in the first inning and the only baserunner in the second was due to a walk from Giesler.

Pitt threatened to score in the top of the third. A leadoff double and then a single put runners on the corners, but Finateri got the final out to keep the score 0-0.

In the top of the 5th, Pitt's offense struck first.

Back-to-back singles put two runners on base and then an RBI from Sky Duff gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Finateri got the final out, but it was after the Panthers took the lead.

After another 1-2-3 inning for the Yellow Jackets offense, Pitt stretched the lead out.

Finateri's day was done after five innings and Jackson Vaughan came out to replace him in the 6th. Vaughan started with a one-out walk to put the first base runner of the sixth inning on for Pitt and then a two-run home run from Kyle Hess extended the lead to 3-0. It was not the start that Vaughan needed after replacing Finateri.

Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the 6th, Minnick got the second hit of the game to lead the inning off with a double. After a ground out from Campbell, Minnick advanced to third on a wild pitch and it appeared that Georgia Tech would get their first runs on the board. Unfortunately for them, DeLeo struck out and Reid grounded out on the next two at-bats to end the 6th.

At the top of the 7th, Dawson Brown replaced Vaughan after his tough 6th and got the Panthers down in order 1-2-3.

Georgia Tech had another opportunity to put runs on the board, but it was another wasted opportunity. Dispigna had a leadoff single and the Finley had a two-out single that put runners on the corners. It was a perfect opportunity for Jackson at the plate, but he grounded out and the inning was over with the Yellow Jackets still trailing by three runs.

At the top of the 8th, Brown walked the leadoff batter and then an RBI double made it a 4-0 game and it certainly felt like the game was over at that point due to how poorly the offense was playing. Camron Hill checked in for Brown after the RBI double. Hill loaded the bases and then gave up another walk to make it 5-0 before he got the final out of the inning.

The offense had a big task ahead of it and despite getting two more runners on in the 8th, Georgia Tech could not score a run.

Georiga Tech's offense could only muster six hits and they were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and 2-14 with runners on. It was a poor performance from the offense when the team did not need it.

Game three is set for 1:00 p.m. tomorrow.
