Georgia Tech Basketball Reaches New Low, Loses by Double-Digits to 2-19 Louisville
Georgia Tech basketball has hit rock bottom.
Yes, they lost by 40 plus points just days ago to Duke, but they had a 2-19 Louisville team on the schedule next and this was as must-win of a game as you can get for Georgia Tech and head coach Josh Pastner.
The Yellow Jackets lost. By double-digits.
Georgia Tech is now 8-13 this season and 1-11 in the conference play, but none of that seems to matter now. The Josh Pastner era is spiraling to an end and the loss to the Cardinals is just another terrible mark on Pastner's record.
Neither Deivon Smith nor Lance Terry played in this game.
While Louisville did win this game by double-digits, neither team played well, which just makes the loss even more embarrassing.
The Cardinals started the game off 0-5, but got on the board first thanks to a pair of free throws and Georgia Tech started 2-8. Halfway through the first half, Louisville held an 11-9 lead. Georgia Tech was shooting 2-8 from three-point range and 3-16 from the field. It was another dreadful performance from the offense and it never got better.
Georgia Tech led 8-4 in the opening minutes and then never led the game again.
For the first half, Tech shot 30% from the field and 44% from three. Louisville turned the ball over 10 times compared to three times from Georgia Tech, the Cardinals outrebounded Georgia Tech 25-11. Miles Kelly led Georgia Tech in scoring with 10 points.
Louisville shot 46% from the field and 30% from three. Jae'Lyn Withers had 14 points and seven rebounds.
Georgia Tech got the lead as close to two late in the game, but poor free throw shooting and just a bad all-around offensive performance sunk any chance that Georgia Tech had.
The Yellow Jackets were unable to hit a field goal in the last 4:07 of the game and only hit one of their last seven attempts. Louisville on the other hand closed the game out strong, hitting four of their last five field goals and going on a 6-0 run during the final minute of the game.
Louisville won 68-58.
Georgia Tech shot 30% for the game and 26% from three, down from the first half. Louisville outrebounded Tech 46-32 and the Yellow Jackets shot 15-24 (63%) from the free-throw line. Kyle Sturdivant (17) and Kelly (16) were the only Tech players in double-digits. Ja'von Franklin finished with eight points and 12 rebounds.
The Cardinals shot 46% and 37% from three-point range, while also shooting 19--26 from the free-throw line. Withers finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
This is a devastating loss for Georgia Tech and feels like the last straw for the Pastner era.
Georgia Tech is back in action on the road this Saturday at NC State. The game will tip off at 1:00 p.m. NC State won the previous matchup this season.
